Travel tips
Foggia is the capital of the province of Foggia and the town is located on the Tavoliere plain, an important agricultural region in the Puglia region of southern Italy. Foggia itself is famous for its watermelons and tomatoes.
The Foggia Cathedral, also known as Santa Maria de Fovea, honours the town’s patron saint Madonna dei Sette Veli. The Palazzo Dogana, the Chiesa delle Croci, and Passo di Corvo archeological park are also important sites.
Within the province, the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel on Mount Gargano in Monte Sant’Angelo is a major draw for Catholic pilgrims. Nearby is San Giovanni Rotondo, the home of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina and site of the Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church.
Gargano National Park is home to the last ancient oak and beech forest in Italy. The park is a beautiful spot for hiking and camping along the Adriatic coast, and the Isole Tremiti within the park are surrounded by clear waters. The islands are a perfect area for diving.
