Camping Lago Azzurro
LOCATION
Camping Lago Azzurro is located in Dormelletto, within a nature reserve stretching along the south-western shore of Lake Maggiore. It is the campsite closest to the town of Arona, reachable in just a few minutes, where you can stroll along the lakefront, go shopping, enjoy an ice cream or a good meal, or visit the weekly Tuesday market. Arona preserves a rich historical heritage: Piazza del Popolo, Piazza San Graziano, the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, the archaeological museum, the famous Colossus of San Carlo (which can also be visited from the inside, offering a unique panoramic view) and the Rocca Borromeo, today a panoramic park overlooking the surrounding landscape.
All around lie other gems of Lake Maggiore: Stresa with its elegant hotels, Angera with its majestic Rocca Borromeo on the opposite shore, Luino famous for its large market, and Sesto Calende, where the lake meets the Ticino River. From the ports of Arona and Stresa, boats depart for the Borromean Islands, each with its own character: Isola Madre with its botanical garden, Isola Bella with the artistic treasures of its palace and gardens, and Isola dei Pescatori with its lake-fish restaurants and lakeside promenade. Just one kilometre away lies the Lagoni di Mercurago Nature Park, a UNESCO heritage site, while a little further afield are Villa Pallavicino in Stresa, the Villa Taranto Gardens in Pallanza, and the Safari Park in Varallo Pombia. Those seeking elevation can climb Mount Mottarone, with views reaching as far as Monte Rosa, and enjoy the Alpyland rail-bobsled, or explore the area aboard the Lago Maggiore Express, combining train and boat. Also worth noting are the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, the Sacro Monte, and the village of Orta San Giulio with its island. For shopping, nearby you'll find the shopping centres of Castelletto Ticino, the Vicolungo outlet, the Arese centre, and the cities of Milan, Turin and Novara. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the Ondaland water park, rafting in Valsesia, the lake zipline, go-karting, Aquadventure Park, golf, mini-golf, mountain biking and boat rental.
ACCOMMODATION
The campsite offers shaded or sunny pitches, with gravel or grass ground depending on each guest's preference, of varying sizes, all equipped with electrical connection of 3 or 6 Amperes; some are located in the front row, directly facing the lake, with no surcharge. For those seeking a different kind of comfort, the site offers Maxi-Caravans, comfortable accommodations located just steps from the lake and the beach, each named after a princess, designed to give the family a fairy-tale holiday.
SERVICES
Within the campsite there is an Information Point at reception, useful for organising visits to the most interesting places in the area, alongside a small shop where you can buy toys, postcards, beach and pool items, newspapers and souvenirs; postal and fax services and Wi-Fi connection are also available. Two modern sanitary blocks offer hot showers with rechargeable electronic cards, sinks, dishwashing basins and a laundry area with washing machines and a Miele dryer; there is also a free motorhome service point, chemical toilet disposal, and a fully equipped bathroom for people with disabilities. The site pays close attention to the environment thanks to solar panels, waste recycling, LED lighting and a brochure printed on FSC paper. For meals, the bar, restaurant and wood-fired pizzeria offer seasonal local dishes, pizzas, breakfasts and takeaway service, to be enjoyed in the dining room, on the veranda or outdoors; bread, pasta, drinks and local wines are also available at the counter, while a supermarket is just 400 metres from the entrance. For four-legged friends, there is the Doggy Park, a fenced area of 200 sqm with an agility course, completely free of charge, and a veterinary clinic is located nearby.
ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT
The private sandy beach, sheltered in a calm bay, is the heart of relaxation for adults and children alike, alongside a playground with a tower, slide, basket swing and spring rockers. The semi-Olympic swimming pool, with two different depths, a diving board, a slide for children, sun loungers, changing rooms and showers, also hosts a free aquagym course; all around there are a sundeck, lawn, and a bar for a snack or a refreshing drink. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy tennis, synthetic-grass five-a-side football and padel courts, all LED-lit, with free racket and ball rental, or the free-access beach volleyball court; the games room offers billiards, table football and ping-pong. The entertainment team livens up the days with a mini-club for children, sports tournaments for teenagers, pool games, baby dance, themed evenings, shows and live music.
