Travel tips

Cagliari

Cagliari is a Sardinian province with an incredibly rich history and cultural legacy. There are sun-kissed beaches, beautiful natural parks and countless archaeological sites. Local dishes rely heavily on seafood, but there are also excellent pecorino cheeses and wines. Mastino is a popular liqueur from this region, providing the perfect way to wrap up a hearty Sardinian meal.

Towns of Cagliari

The capital of the province is the city of Cagliari, which is famous for its gorgeous old buildings and piazzas. The San Saturnino Basilica dates from the fifth century, and the Cittadella dei Musei is a stately collection of museums dedicated to archaeology and art. Outside the capital, the town of Quartu Sant’Elena contains a world-class ethnographic museum, and the Archaeological Park of Cuccuru Nuraxi contains a wealth of ancient Roman ruins and mosaics.

What to Do in Cagliari

Those who love the outdoors are spoiled for choice in Cagliari, as they can frolic on beaches, windsurf just off the coast, and even go horseback riding through Molentargius-Saline Regional Natural Park and Sette Fratelli – Monte Generis Regional Park. The former is also a paradise for birdwatchers, as up to twenty thousand species spend winter here.
