Christmas Markets: in South Tyrol the celebration goes on until 6 January

With the arrival of winter, the campsites in South Tyrol get ready to change their aspect: whereas during summer they are plunged into green and are the ideal destination for all the travelers who look for a refreshing place, in winter, when a blanket of white snow surrounds them, they become small paradise corners. They are not only the perfect location for winter sports lovers, but also a place where to get relaxed and live the real Christmas atmosphere in an excellent mixture of Italian and German tradition. While in Germany and Austria the Christmas markets finish on December 24, in South Tyrol the celebration goes on until January 6, offering a further opportunity for tourism.

South Tyrol represents the perfect choice for any budget or work needs, thanks to the high number of towns which organize a Christmas Market and the duration above the average of other markets. The campsites in South Tyrol are more than skilled in the welcome of guests, not only because they have heated and comfortable accommodations, but also because they manage in creating a magical Christmas atmosphere, which perfectly meets the expectations of the guests. Moreover, they often offer also indoor swimming pool and wellness center. The experience of Christmas market is always enchanting from the outset, but all the characteristics listed above can transform it into unique.

The trip is worth even just for a taste of Kaiserschmarrn or Strauben, that, together with Zelten and apple strudel are traditional desserts of the Christmastide period. Here following the south Tyrolean Christmas markets, which can be considered unmissable due to their dimensions or peculiarities.

Christmas market Bolzano: the biggest Christmas market in Italy is scheduled from November 26, 2015 to January 6, 2016. The attractions are not only Waltherplatz and Palais Campofranco, where the market takes place, but also exhibitions, museum tours (in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology there is Ötzi the Iceman), castles and music. Every Saturday and Sunday from 2.00 to 6.00 p.m., in Waltherplatz and Palais Campofranco take place concerts and, on Sunday morning, there are also music shows of bands with traditional clothes. Among the peculiarities, the Christmas market for children in Piazza della Mostra with games and attraction for younger people.

Christmas market Meran: it takes place from November 27, 2015 to January 6, 2016 and is very well known for its 80 stands located along the promenade on the river Passer. Beyond the concerts, the program foresees activities for kids and the possibility to eat in a restaurant with the form of a Christmas ball. However, the tourist can also attend the traditional St. Nicholas parade or meet the Krampus, men dressed up like devils who walk among the crowd and look for “naughty” children to frighten them… but they also enjoy themselves by frightening the grownups!

Christmas market Brixen: the scene for this market from 27 November 2015 to 6 January 2016 is the Piazza del Duomo. There are 35 stands and many side events, which find their peak with the parade of the “Christmas angel of Brixen”. The angel is a young girl chosen by a jury and accompanied by 14 angels in Baroque style. On November 28, on December 5 and 12 the angel will offer gifts to children.

Christmas market Bruneck: scheduled from 27 November 2015 to 6 January 2016, the market of Brunek is renowned for the romantic atmosphere that reigns in the historic center of the city, which has as a background the bishop's castle and the Plan De Corones. Among the events to report, the parade of more than 400 Krampus of December 6, the St. Nicholas the next day and the living nativity scene on December 21.

Christmas market Sterzing: from the 27 November to the 6 January the visitors can plunge into a unique atmosphere by strolling in the city center of Sterzing, which has an incomparable ambience thanks to the colorful facades of the houses and the medieval town square, all dominated by the tower of Twelve. The music and the fragrances coming from its stands are perfectly mixed to the ancient traditions: the Advent concert on December 6 in the Holy Spirit Church and on December 31 the distribution of good luck charms by chimney sweeps before the year-end party.

Christmas market Martell: scheduled from December 5 to 8, 2015, this market has earned the title of the highest in the Alps, as it is staged at 2,061 meters of altitude of the Enzian Alpine hut, in the middle of the Stelvio National Park.
