Some touristic information
The Penisola Sorrentina, known in English as the Sorrento Peninsula, is situated at the southern end of the Gulf of Naples. It is a region renowned for the beauty of its coastline and its rocky, wooded hills.
The peninsula is named after its main town, Sorrento, and the Lattari Mountains form its backbone. The area’s primary attraction is its stunning coastline, stretching from the Gulf of Naples in the north to the Amalfi Coast in the south. Penisola Sorrentina also offers good opportunities for those who enjoy walking and camping.
Places to See
Penisola Sorrentina is characterised by its string of breathtaking coastal villages, such as Sant’ Agnello, Meta and Massa Lubrense. All offer good accommodation and excellent seafood and Neapolitan-style specialities. For day trips the city of Naples and the historic sites of Herculaneum and Pompeii are nearby, and one may also take a short cruise from Sorrento to the island of Capri.
